The Search For Simplicity (SFS)
With all the research and opinions which forms the South African Education landscape; the search for simplicity is ongoing. Some have argued for "back to basics" to envisioning a total revolution. On this continuum I am adding my voice by identifying a few (in line with my 5-finger rule) variables to bring simplicity to school improvement.
The Variables
- Standards (set by school)
- Expectation (three dimensions - parents/teachers/authorities)
- Targets (set by school)
ASSUMPTIONS
- Minimum resources for functionality
- Competent collective leadership
- Competent support from authority
The School as an Organisation & Primary Provider of Schooling
- Schools are similar
- ?People
- Systems
- Procedures
- Schools are unique
- Schools are dynamic
- Schools have context
